Gold Leaf Restoration has been fabricating closed corner picture frames and reproduction mirror frames and furniture for 20 years.

We will reproduce an antique or contemporary item or a piece of your own design. We often collaborate with retail picture framers, designers, cabinet makers, furniture makers, designers, and carvers. Our reproductions are gilded in the historical techniques of burnish water gilding or oil gilding.

We have been working with artists of all types doing smaller scale projects for interiors for the home. Bronze, glass, fabric, plaster, tiles, aluminum, all are materials that lend themselves to leafing of all types. Once the leaf is applied, dyes and glazes can be applied to create ageing, define form, and tint the color of the leaf.

Aluminum can be made to look like 12K gold, new copper leaf like an old, worn penny, and the color of brass leaf can be deepened to look like 23K gold. You can apply the leaf and wear through it, leaving a gossamer shimmer, allowing the background colors to add richness and interest.

I feel that the closer you get to an object, the more interesting and complex the surface should be. The various layers should blend into a minute world of color and texture. That is when it is right.

The client may not understand why, but they know when the surface looks correct instead of contrived.
